Mumbai Marathon
I am running the 6 km Dream Run in the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2010 on the 17th of January. Please support me by pledging a donation to the charity that I am running for, Janakalyan Sevashram in Panvel.
Marathons establish an emotional connect with the city you live in, providing a platform to cut across social and economic barriers. Mumbai is one such city where the community spirit is already strong, and events such as these help Mumbaikars come even closer. The Mumbai Marathon provides Mumbaikers like myself an opportunity to give something back to society. During my run, while encouraging people in stressful professions to live healthier lives, I also hope to raise money for a worthy charity. The Janakalyan Sevashram furthers the community spirit of the city as it looks after destitute senior citizens and orphaned children by providing them with shelter, food, clothing, education and medical treatment. In the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon 2009, over Rs. 6.45 crore was raised in clearly tracked funds for 124 NGOs. The individual contributions ranged from Rs. 10 to Rs. 48 lakh. Friends, family and colleagues can support my run by donating money to this good cause. Even a token amount would be appreciated; you have the option to pledge as much or as little as you want to. Thank you! Janakalyan SevashramJanakalyan Sevashram (JS) situated at Panvel is a home for down-trodden, neglected, aged people and destitute, orphaned children. The institute constructs and maintains homes for the aged and also orphaned children. At present, it houses about 62 senior citizens and 176 children. All the needs of the ashramites are met, including accommodation, nutritious food, medicine and hospitalization. JS also provides them with clothes four times in a year. The children are enrolled in schools in the locality. Their school fees, uniforms, shoes and transport charges are borne by the Ashram. The institute’s monthly expenses, which are around Rs. 4.5 to 5 lakh, are met purely by donations offered by ashramites and well-wishers. Janakalyan Sevashram is co-registered under section 25 of the Companies’ Act 1956 and also holds an exemption certificate issued under sec 80-G of the Income Tax Act. Any donation to the charity is exempted from tax under this provision. To learn more about the charity, click here. To make a donation, contact : Ms. Kalyani Ramanathan (Volunteer) Mob.
