The Legacy of CK Prahalad: 10 Unforgettable lessons
Wednesday, April 21st, 2010
April 16, 2010 marked the end of an era. We lost C K Prahalad, the man who turned the world of management on its head. The CK I knew through his books, interviews and thoughts has left an indelible impression on me. As a tribute, I would like to talk about 10 unforgettable lessons CK taught me:
CK will always live on – through his thoughts and our actions.
- That poverty and profit are not mutually exclusive.
- That disregarding the power of rural markets could be a grave and expensive business mistake
- That sometimes, it is absolutely essential to build capacity first and create a market later.
- That your core competence should never be easily replicable by anyone else. Else, it should not be your core competence.
- That the common man is probably the most powerful element of all, but doesn’t realize it. Not just yet.
- That the Western business models should never be followed blindly
- That we Indians have it in us to turn the flows of capital and culture around – we just need to believe in ourselves and our practices.
- That nothing is impossible – if you look closely, a lot of people are already doing what you thought impossible a while ago!
- That ideas are always more important than companies, brands and CEOs.
- That you should never judge someone based on origins.
